Project Update – SESA
RBCC Client Info – Video Projects Update – October 28, 2009
I. Project
Overview – SolarAlberta shorts
Budget - $10,000.00
Amt paid to date – (pending)
Invoice pending – (pending)
Amt donated by RBCC – (pending)
SESA has contracted
a series of short videos from RBCC about a range of topics related to
solar energy and other forms of renewable energy. Total budget RBCC
provides video masters for SESA’s use, as well as providing
web-casting, television broadcasting on the Made-in-Alberta show,
television, web and newsletter promotion.
Project Status
Originally, this
project was planned as five episodes. Due to the complexity of
“Greening the Grid”, it has been broken into three
episodes. The total number of short episodes at this point is seven.
These could be recombined at a later date into three longer stand-alone
features.
1.
“Passive Solar” and “Sun-tempered House”
- Two episodes in a series featuring the Atchison house, completed and
aired – November 2008
- These can be viewed on the MIA Channel in a chapter called
“Staying Warm” and the SolarAlberta channel.
2. “Building
NetZero” and “Energizing NetZero”
- Two episodes in a series featuring Riverdale NetZero, completed and
aired March 2009
- These can be viewed on the MIA channel in a chapter called
“Eco-buildings” and the SolarAlberta channel.
3. “Greening
the Grid Parts One, Two, Three”
Three episodes in a series featuring Tim Weis and Pembina’s
“Greening the Grid” study
- First episode completed and aired October 2009
- Second and third episode in production, will air in November 2009
- These are located in a new chapter on the MIA Channel called
“The Grid” and on the SolarAlberta channel.
II. Project
Overview – SESA 10 second motion ID
Budget - $500.00
Amt donated by RBCC - $500.00
Amt owing - 0
A ten-second motion
ID for SolarAlberta.ca (SESS) is donated by RBCC with the series.
II Project Status
A slogan is an
excellent “mini script” for the creation of a motion ID.
This prompted discussion around slogans for SolarAlberta, and this has
grown into a larger project than originally proposed for the budget.
Also, the lack of availability of a high-quality logo for SESA limits
our design choices.
RBCC has created an
interim ID, with visuals only (no slogan) and a low-res version of the
logo. RBCC recommends further development of the slogan and
high-quality logo. We can do this, pending creation and approval of a
budget for sub-contracting design services for the logo. Barb will
continue to volunteer with the SolarAlberta slogan sub-committee. For
reference, the slogan ideas to date have been uploaded to the documents
page.
III Project
Overview – SolarAlberta Web TV Channel
Given the high
value and number of the videos commissioned by SESA since 2004, RBCC
has created a complementary “SolarAlberta” channel on our
RBCC.ca Web TV site. This provides for easy viewing of all the episodes
to date.
III Project
Status
The SolarAlberta
WebTV channel has been created with distinctive header and logo links
to the SolarAlberta.ca web site. There are currently seven videos
uploaded. This channel is also linked from
IV Project
Overview – Solar Seminar Speakers Series
Budget
– $2500.00 (Godo Stoyke package)
- $300 times ten seminars videotaping only = $3000.00
- $2500 times full production of ten seminars = $25,000.00
Amt donated by RBCC – (pending)
Amt invoiced – (pending)
Amt owing – (pending)
SEA contracted RBCC
to create a pilot of one of their Solar Seminars to research the
feasibility of an on-line series of the best of these seminars. The
proposed package includes videotaping the seminar with high-quality
sound and editing the speaker’s slides to the audio track, with
one rough-cut release on DVD for the approval of the speaker. The talk
is released in full length (except question period) on YouTube and on
DVD. The proposed package also includes a short (30 to 60 seconds)
synopsis of the talk, created by interviewing the speaker, and released
on YouTube, in the Made-in-Alberta broadcast and web cast, and on the
DVD.
Given that the
board may not know ahead of time which seminars to commission, a second
proposal was approved to fund the videotaping only of these seminars.
Then the board would vote on the expense of finishing the package. Two
seminars have been videotaped to date.
IV Project Status
1. Godo
Stoyke “Carbon Charter” May 2009
This seminar was videotaped and high-quality sound achieved. There were
known faults with the location that RBCC had developed some workarounds
for. Despite this, when Godo Stoyke was given a sample DVD for his
“rough-cut review” he felt the location problems were still
too problematic and did not approve the video for release to the public.
The location
problems with the Solar Seminars are no longer an issue as they have
moved to a more amenable site.
2. Tim Weis
“Ontario’s World Class Energy Programs – What is
Possible in Alberta?” October 2009
This seminar was videotaped at the new location and high-quality sound
and visuals achieved. RBCC is ready to produce this package pending
board approval.
